Get your Debt Under Control
Knowing and admitting you have a problem is the first step. You have to then take some positive action to fix the problem, before it gets to the stage of defaults on your credit file.
You will need to sit down with a piece of paper and write down all of the bills you have, and all of the expences. it is always a good idea to keep atleast last years bills and bank statements, credit card statements and any loan statements you receive.
Now follow these steps:
- What is on your Credit File, if you do not know, click here to get a copy of your Credit File and Credit Report.
- Using 3 columns, write down who you owe money to, how much and the date it is, or was due.
- If you can not pay the full amount, make a smaller payment and then ring the creditor to let them know the reason, be honest, they will try to help you, and appreciate the call. Something is better than nothing to them, and then they will not be calling you.
- Keep to a strict budget. Treat savings like a bill, it's your way back
